The Boffomundo Show existed in the early daze of cable from 1979-80.  My co-host
was Aaron Weiner and the show was co-produced and co-written with Len Peyronnin.
Interviews with progressive rock luminaries at the end of the first wave included
Robert Fripp (King Crimson founder), Phil Collins & John Goodsall (Genesis & Brand X),
keyboardist Fumio Miyashta (Far East Family Band), fusion guitarist Al Di Meola
(Return to Forever), singer Bernardo Lanzetti (PFM), bass/vocalist John Wetton
(King Crimson, U.K. and by 1981, Asia) and photojournalist & Genesis/Peter Gabriel
biographer, Armando Gallo.

What the heck is Boffomundo?  It is a name I made up, which roughly translates into
"big world", and since we were dealing with essentially European music, it seemed to
work.  Later incarnations were called
In The Mode (1982) which featured an
interview with singer/guitarist Adrian Belew (King Crimson) and guitarist Larry
Carlton.  Finally
Total Sound (1990-92), which included a day with legendary
drummer/composer Bill Bruford (Yes, King Crimson, U.K., Bruford and Bill Bruford's
Earthworks).

There are other interviews and performances in our canon that will see the light of
day: the first
Total Sound, from 1990, which featured a return visit with John Goodsall,
11 years after his appearance with Phil Collins on the
Boffomundo Show, plus quite a
few shows with local LA talent from circa 1991-2.  These bands, the most noteworthy
being Caterwaul, performed live in the public access studios completely unadorned and
raw. Kudos to the interns and cable operators for helping produce these shows.  It's
great that you now have the chance to see them.

Many thanks to: Dan Alexander, Rachel Blachley, Lee Desser, Michael Field, Laurel
Galyot, the late, great Tony Harrington, Keith Lewis, Dori Siegenthaler, Wendy White
and indie film makers Mark Pirro and Braddon Mendelson.
